The design approach of Mövenpick Istanbul Old Town is inspired by the hotel’s location within Istanbul’s rich and layered historical context. Rather than directly reproducing the city’s architectural heritage, the concept reinterprets it through a contemporary interior language. One of the main references is the Valens Aqueduct, located close to the hotel, with its strong rhythm, monumental scale and repeated arches. Within the interior, the arch is used not simply as a decorative motif, but as an architectural element that defines transitions, directs perspective and creates visual continuity between different spaces. Another important influence comes from the way light shapes Istanbul’s historic baths, domes and roof openings. Glass installations and reflective surfaces, inspired by the light openings of the Zeyrek Çinili Hamam, bring this architectural memory into the present through a lighter and more abstract expression. In this way, Mövenpick Istanbul Old Town creates a connection with the history of its surroundings without relying on nostalgic references, instead translating the forms, rhythms and light of old Istanbul into a modern design concept.
