OWERVIEW

Mercure Hotel Trabzon is designed to reflect the historical atmosphere of Karadeniz where one can find cultural elementsand representations such as colors of the nature, Anatolian patterns and ornaments in the design details.

Located in the Anatolian lands, a port city Trabzon has hosted various civilizations for centuries. As a result of this multicultural structure, Trabzon creates a rich and attractive environment in a visual sense. Hİstorical village houses and hand crafts are one of the main characteristics of Trabzon, continue with the green forests and plateaus. In order to protect these values, to remind them to visitors and carry them to future generations, we have adopted a new, modern understanding as a design perspective.

DESIGN ELEMENTS

To create an atmospheric experience, the color palette plays an important role in the design process. While building a strong connection with the enviroment, the steps needed to take was to get sycnronized with the regional climate, and the seasonal color variations in nature which effects the diversed color palette.

OWERVIEW

Cultural elements of the region transforms with a modern twist, as we adopt a design concept based on local elements such as traditional patterns, handcrafts and natural materials, ‘divan’ -a traditional seating group- is one of the genuine items that we used in the common areas and rooms.

COLORS

DESIGN ELEMENTS

A rich harmony is created by using the wood material, which is the main building blocks of Trabzon’s architectural texture, in the paneling details on the walls, on the other hand by using the natural mozaic casting technique; terazzo pattern is also a dedication to nature. A museum like space is created by the use of copper detailing in accessories and wood material in design elements, rugs and fabric patterns, crossstitch works in order to draw attention to traditional handcrafts. One of the key visuals in the design process is “Trabzon Keşan” pattern which mainly used for women’s garments in the region, having a significant role and meaning in a historical context.
